Woman posed as immigration officer, threatened victims with gun

A Little Village woman is accused of posing as an immigration officer and promising to arrange U.S. citizenship for two people for $17,000 each, then threatening at gunpoint to deport them if they didn’t pay up.

Gloria Juarez, 53, of the 3300 block of West 25th Street, is charged with theft by deception, impersonating a peace officer and possession of a controlled substance, police said. Juarez told authorities that, during the past five years, she has scammed about five other people and has pocketed about $150,000, police said.

Juarez was ordered held in lieu of $50,000 bail following a hearing before Criminal Court Judge Donald Panarese today, prosecutors said.

In the two cases she’s charged with, a 34-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman told authorities that Juarez offered to help them obtain their citizenship if they each gave her $17,000, police said.

Juarez, displaying a gun and a “badge,’’ threatened to deport them if they didn’t pay up, telling them, “If you don’t believe me, I know where you live and I know where you work,’’ according to a police report.
