The Latin Alternative Music Conference preview (Audio)
Every July, fans of Latin alternative music gather in New York for the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC) to see and hear their favorite bands and maybe catch a peek at artists who will become big stars.
For the third year, Alt.Latino is packing our bags for a week of panel discussions, musical showcases, and opportunities to meet and greet bands and industry folks.
This week’s show features some of the bands we look forward to seeing in New York. We are joined by Raul Campos, a DJ who hosts his own Latin alternative show for NPR member radio station KCRW in Santa Monica, Calif. Raul adds his own list of bands to see.
Not surprisingly, some of our selections dovetailed. For example, all three of us are excited to see Los Angeles’ La Santa Cecilia, a group of extremely talented instrumentalists who surround lead vocalist Marisol Hernandez’s gorgeous voice with a mix of Mexican tradition and urban modernity.
Alt.Latino co host Jasmine Garsd has Spanish-language hip-hop at the top of her must-see list. Jasmine says she can’t wait for the big Friday-night show with Ana Tijoux and Calle 13 from Brooklyn.
