Last year’s Latino Republican candidates broke a glass ceiling and showed just how far the Latino community has come. Yet, Latino voters should keep in mind that they were riding on the back of policies that will make it harder for more members of the community to follow suit.

On the surface, the new Republican plan to reach out to Latino voters sounds nice. Specifically, the project includes provisions to look for at least 100 Latinos who would be willing to run for seats in state legislatures across the United States.

The Republican State Leadership Committee debuted a new initiative Monday aimed at attracting more Hispanic candidates to run for office and the top goal is connecting with Hispanic voters.
